Manchester City full-back Pablo Zabaleta has admitted that his side were made to pay for a lack of consistency last season.
City relinquished the Premier League title to local rivals Manchester United last season and boss Roberto Mancini was made to pay the price after losing his job.
Zabaleta who was named as the club's Player of the Year last term revealed that sometimes the team spirit was lacking last term, leading to a drop in performance.
The Argentinean insists that they are fully focused in reclaiming the Premier League title this campaign under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Zabaleta said: "Let's be honest, we didn't perform.
"It wasn't the best, was it? We were too far from it, inconsistent.
"It's true that United were not the greatest United team but they won the league very easily."
