Benfica keen on United deal

Benfica have joined Sporting in the race to sign Manchester United winger Bebe and want to sell Nicolas Gaitan to the Reds in the deal.

Benfica are keen on Bebe, 23, after his stunning form for Pacos Ferreira last season where he impressed everyone with 11 goals in 23 starts.

The Portuguese champions are preparing to revamp their squad during a busy summer where they are expected to sell off a number of their best players again, according to the business model they have developed in the last few years.

Benfica have been trying to sell Gaitan, 26, to United for over two years and it was thought that his time had come and gone, but the Lisbon club are not giving up.

The Argentina-born midfielder has won six caps for his country in the past five years and missed out on selection for the World Cup after an ordinary season for Benfica.

Gaitan does not posses a EU passport and any UK club would have to argue for special dispensation to get a work permit to allow him to play.
