Manchester United's hopes of signing Daniele de Rossi have been dealt a blow with Roma boss Rudi Garcia saying he will stay in Italy.
Red Devils boss David Moyes has yet to make a major signing since taking over at Old Trafford but is desperate to sign a midfielder before Monday's deadline.
Reports on Saturday claim that de Rossi is high on Moyes' wanted list, with Everton's Marouane Fellaini and Bilbao's Herrera Ander also linked with a move to Old Trafford.
However, speaking at a press conference ahead of Sunday's Serie A game against Verona, Garcia expressed his belief that the 30-year-old will stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
"Daniele de Rossi isn't only a big player, but he's also a big man," Garcia said. "He has been here at Roma for a long time and he wants to play with this jersey.
"We spoke when he came back from his holidays and we said that, if it got past a certain date, he would certainly remain with us.
"He will stay here for the whole season and this is something that satisfies me a lot."
