Defensive headache for Moyes

Last Updated: Wed, 19 Mar 2014 09:43

Manchester United will be without defenders Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans for Olympiakos' visit, while Juan Mata is cup-tied.

Centre-halves Smalling and Evans are suffering from respective hamstring and calf problems and will be unavailable for the Champions League last-16 second leg at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

January signing Mata is ineligible having featured for Chelsea in the competition earlier in the season.

It has been suggested that manager David Moyes may recall Nani and Ryan Giggs to the squad for the visit of the Greek side after both missed Sunday's defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

Striker Danny Welbeck has also been tipped to join Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in attack due to Mata's absence.
