David Moyes is being linked with an audacious raid to take Barcelona's former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to Manchester United.
The Scot will be officially installed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at Old Trafford on July 1 but that will not stop him plotting a summer of transfer activity as soon as current club Everton's Premier League campaign ends this coming Sunday.
Moyes is looking to bring in a quality central midfielder as Paul Scholes' retirement has created a void to fill, while Ryan Giggs is in the twilight of his career and Darren Fletcher has been struggling with ulcerative colitis which restricts his appearances.
A return to Everton to try and snap up Marouane Fellaini was immediately mooted when it was confirmed that Moyes would be the United boss.
However, fresh reports claim the Red Devils will attempt to take Spain international Fabregas back to the Premier League after his struggle for first team action at the Nou Camp since his £35million move from the Gunners in summer 2011.
It's thought Arsenal, who are still reportedly owed £5million by Barca, have first refusal on Fabregas, but United will test the water with a £20million bid and hope the player's strong ties with the north Londoners does not prevent him moving to Old Trafford.
It would also allow Fabregas to link up with former Arsenal team-mate Robin van Persie, who made the switch from the Emirates to United in a £24million last summer.
