Sir Alex Ferguson has urged his Manchester United players to recover quickly from the Real Madrid disappointment and defeat Chelsea.

The Red Devils chief was left 'distraught' after his side were dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid following a 2-1 last-16, second-leg defeat at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Nani's controversial red card when United were leading 1-0 played a huge part in the outcome and made elimination from the competition even more disappointing.

However, the Red Devils can keep their hopes of securing a Premier League and FA Cup double alive by defeating Chelsea in Sunday's quarter-final showdown at Old Trafford.

Ferguson is in no doubt that his players can produce the right response to their adversity - as they have done in the past.

"We have a job to do on Sunday and I think we'll do that okay," said Ferguson.

"We've gone through this procedure many times. When you're at a club for a long time there are always damp moments and dark days.

"In general we recover very well and we'll do that again."
