Phil Jones is on course to make his Manchester United comeback against Galatasaray on Tuesday evening after an injury-plagued season.

The versatile former Blackburn star, who cost United £16.5m last June, has been dogged by a series of fitness problems this term, but he is now back in full training and ready for a run out against the Turkish giants in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old missed the start of the campaign after complaining of back spasms before a knee operation in September put him out of action again.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson didn't risk Jones in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Norwich, but he is seriously contemplating handing the defender a start in Turkey.

Ferguson said: "He will definitely play a part in it. I don't know whether to start him or not.

"He's trained all week and has done very well.

"There's no problem with him physically, it's just match fitness.

"He's done about seven days' training and could maybe start. With him and Chris Smalling back it's almost like having new players."
