Real Madrid have let Manchester United know that they face competition from Juventus in the race to sign Angel di Maria this summer.
Sources in Madrid have been expecting United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to launch a bid for the ex-Benfica star - who has been erratic at times for Real this season.
Di Maria, who is represented by Cristiano Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes, has been linked to Old Trafford before with suggestions that he could be the heir to Ryan Giggs' left wing now that the Welshman has moved into a central role for United.
But Ferguson has not yet come forward with any offer or signs that he wants the Argentina winger to bolster his squad for next season, which has apparently brought Juventus to the table.
They sent three top men to watch Gonzalo Higuain in Real Madrid's 4-3 win over Real Valladolid on Saturday night, but came away with a good impression of Di Maria who scored the opening goal.
The 25-year-old winger, who has started 65 La Liga games in three seasons at Real, is believed to be available for 30 million euros.
