Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp reportedly aims to re-sign Shinji Kagawa as Neven Subotic may join Manchester United in exchange.
Japan international, Kagawa, has been a largely peripheral figure since joining United last summer from the German Bundesliga outfit, both under Sir Alex Ferguson and his successor David Moyes.
Kagawa recently acknowledged that he needs to make a greater impact if he is to remain with the Premier League champion's long term, while he would not rule out a return to Dortmund in the future.
That has alerted Klopp, who has already hit out at United for wasting Kagawa's talents at Old Trafford while he would love to take him back to Germany if the opportunity arose.
Reports claim Moyes would be willing to let Kagawa re-join Dortmund but he wants to try and bolster his defensive options in the process by taking 24-year-old Serbia international central defender, Subotic, in exchange.
Klopp would be loathe to lose a key man such as Subotic and it would take some lengthy negotiations for this deal to get off the ground, although there is a chance that Kagawa could still get a move back to Dortmund.
