Queiroz left United in the summer of 2003 and endured a torrid time as manager of Real Madrid, where he failed to win a trophy and lasted just ten months.
Now the 55-year-old looks to have decided to try his luck in a top job once again, taking over at the helm of his national side and trying to lead them to the 2010 World Cup.
Mnay knowledgeable fans will be making a judgement call on Quieroz's decision, especially with a £25 free bet up for grabs, but the man himself is revealing little.
Queiroz revealed: "Things are being dealt with by officials from the two institutions involved. The important thing is for the two institutions to reach agreement."
But people will question why Queiroz is leaving a team like United, having been tipped to replace Sir Alex Ferguson in the next few years, and take charge of an ageing Portugal side.
With many of the 'Golden Generation' now retired from international football - the likes of Luis Figo and Rui Costa - and several coming towards the latter stages of their careers - Riccardo Carvalho, Deco, Paulo Ferreira and Pauleta - the chance of a tournament victory looks to be diminishing.
