Manchester United are set to open talks with David De Gea in an attempt to get the player tied to a bumper new deal, reports claim.
It is not that long ago that De Gea was being linked with the Old Trafford exit door, but following an impressive end to last season, the Reds are keen to secure his future.
The 22-year-old has a contract until 2016 but United want to extend that and also bump up his wages to fight off interest from Barcelona, who are targeting him as Victor Valdes' long-term successor.
De Gea is settled in Manchester but a return to Spain with Barca would be tempting, hence United's eagerness to get him tied down to a new contract said to be worth £75,000-a-week.
United had been linked with Stoke's Asmir Begovic as doubts surrounded De Gea's future but all their efforts will now be put into securing the Spaniard's future.
