Manchester United are without Paul Scholes for their trip to Real Madrid on Wednesday but Ashley Young and Rio Ferdinand are fit.

Scholes has a knee injury and hasn't travelled to Madrid but winger Young has recovered from a knee problem of his own and is in contention to face the Spanish champions.

Young hasn't featured since the win over Liverpool on January 13 and is expected to start on the bench at the Bernabeu.

Ferdinand was rested for the win over Everton on Sunday but could be in line to start against Real, although both Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are fit despite being forced off early against Everton with minor knocks.

Michael Carrick could well be recalled to the starting line-up after beginning Sunday's victory on the bench.

Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has travelled to Spain after missing the win over Everton but David de Gea is set to start in goal.
