Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger is back on Manchester United's wanted list after they missed out on his team-mate Thomas Muller.

The Red Devils seemed in line to swoop for Muller until he opted to pledge his future to Bayern Munich by signing a new five-year deal at the Allianz Arena.

New United boss Louis van Gaal is known to be an admirer of Schweinsteiger and the Old Trafford outfit have been linked with the talented schemer in the past.

And, with midfield reinforcements the main priority over the summer, it may well be that the north-west giants try to snare the 29-year-old Germany international after the World Cup concludes later this summer.

Having missed out in several targets last summer under David Moyes, the Premier League club will not want to make the same mistake again but now have the added pulling power of one of the most respected managers in world football.
