United face Chelsea fight for Moreno

David Moyes' newly recruited scout Mick Doherty has been tracking Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno since August, according to ABC.

The Sevilla-based newspaper claims Doherty, who worked for Moyes at Everton before joining Chelsea as European scout, has seen Moreno on several occasions since the start of the season.

The report claims Doherty has been '[Jose] Mourinho's eyes and shadow' of Moreno, 21, and suggests that the scout has a 'crush' on the left-back with all his findings being entirely positive.

Doherty has been spotted at numerous Sevilla matches this season, but the report claims that the Chelsea scout has specifically been at the last two against Slovan Liberec and Espanyol.

Chelsea are on the look-out for a left-back to replace Ashley Cole, but Doherty's new employers could also be in the market for the Spanish international, having sent Phil Neville to watch him against Real Madrid last month.

Moyes now has direct access to a scout who has followed Moreno all season, although Sevilla are in no rush to sell and recently extended the player's contract until 2018, pushing his escape clause up to £25million.
