United offered hope in Coentrao pursuit

Real Madrid defender and Manchester United transfer target Fabio Coentrao could be available for as little as £8million in the summer.

The Portugual international almost joined United last summer but a move failed to materialise and he was forced to stay put at the Bernabeu.

However, the 26-year-old has again struggled to force his way into the Real first-team this season and is expected to be allowed to move on this summer.

United boss David Moyes is on the lookout for a new first-choice left-back with Patrice Evra tipped to leave, so Coentrao is a possible option with Real thought to be prepared to let him go for a cut-price fee in the region of £8-10million.

United have also been linked with Southampton youngster Luke Shaw but he is likely to cost considerably more than Coentrao so club officials and Moyes may view the experienced Real man as the better option.
