United secure midfield deals

Man UtdMan Utd midfielders Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher have signed contract extensions until June 2010 and June 2012 respectively.

Veteran Scholes is currently sidelined with a medial knee ligament damage but has seen his immediate future at Old Trafford secured along with squad man Fletcher.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's website: "Paul is proof that if you look after yourself you can carry on playing and be rewarded at a club of this size. He's 34 years old and he's been here since he was 14 and that tells you the desire and the ability he has to stay at the top.

"Darren is in the same vein as Ryan (Giggs), Paul and Wes (Brown) in that he is a long serving member of the team.

"His consistency and level-headed approach is a great attribute and we are all delighted that they have signed new contracts."
