Manchester United have taken out their option to sign 17-year-old midfielder Lucas Evangelista from Desportivo Brasil.

The versatile youngster, who can play as either a creative or defensive midfielder, is one of three youngsters who have been in Manchester for final trials at the club's Carrington training complex recently.

Sources in Brazil have reported that the teenager impressed United with his marking, dribbling ability and work-rate.

Evangelista will only sign professional papers with United when he turns 18 in February next year but will spend some time in England training with the Reds youth teams.

However, Rafael Leao has returned to Desportivo after failing to make the grade.

The 18-year-old, who's made three appearances for the United reserves in 2011/12, has had his loan terminated.
