Wayne Rooney is reportedly looking to return from a nasty head injury in time for Manchester United's derby trip to Manchester City.
The 27-year-old striker was initially ruled out for three weeks because of the nasty gash to his head which he suffered during an accidental collision with Phil Jones in training just before the 1-0 defeat at Liverpool on September 1.
That would have meant he would not be due back in training until around the derby date at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, September 22.
But the 10 stitches in his head are helping him to heal well and Rooney could be back in light training by the end of this week and that will give him a chance to be fit to play some part against United's local and Premier League title rivals.
Rooney's chances of playing will no doubt rest with the medical staff who will have to assess whether the head injury has healed up sufficiently for him to head a ball.
