Manchester United have missed out on two top targets, with Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema snubbing the chance to move to Old Trafford.

The two French internationals were known to be on the list of potential transfer targets for Sir Alex Ferguson, but both will not now be heading to United this summer.

Lyon have agreed a £30million fee with Real Madrid for Benzema, who will undergo a medical at the Bernabeu later this week before becoming the latest big name arrival in Madrid.

Meanwhile, Ribery insists he will only join Real Madrid if he is to leave Bayern Munich, although the German giants are doing all they can to keep the winger.

The 26-year-old told L'Equipe: "I have decided that I want to leave. It will be Real Madrid or nothing. I will wait to see how things pan out but I would like to hold talks with the Bayern management soon."
