A late goal from substitute Emily Heskey helped Aston Villa secure a point in terrible conditions at Turf Moor.

At the beginning of a wind and rain-affected match, neither side looked like they were at their best. However, Burnley managed to take the lead in the ninth minute to inject some life into the game.

Robbie Blake whipped in a superb free-kick to find Steven Caldwell who headed home for his first goal in the Premier League for Burnley. The home side continued to enjoy the better of the first half and other than a couple of corners just before the break, Villa didn't threaten a great deal.

The second half was a different story and the away side produced a much better performance.

Gabriel Agbonlahor found some space and forced an excellent save from Brian Jensen early in the second period as they started to increase the pressure.

Moments later there was a controversial incident as Richard Dunne - who had already been booked - pulled the shirt of Steven Fletcher as the striker ran towards goal. The referee decided to book Carlos Cuellar instead though, meaning that Dunne escaped being sent-off.

With 20 minutes remaining, Martin O'Neill brought on Stewart Downing and then 10 minutes later he introduced Heskey - a combination that eventually got Villa back on level terms.

Only four minutes of normal time remained when Downing's corner was punched away by Jensen as far as Heskey who headed the ball home from four yards.
