Ryan Giggs marked his 900th Manchester United appearance with a last gasp winner as the defending champions won 2-1 at Norwich.

After defeat, despite advancing, against Ajax in the Europa League in midweek many expected a devastating response from Manchester United against Norwich but it was another stuttering display in which the old guard rescued them again.

A blistering start from the champions saw them take an early lead in just the seventh minute as recently un-retired Paul Scholes arrived late to meet Nani's superb cross and head home.

The counter attacking threat of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez gave Norwich plenty of problems early on but United failed to capitalise on early dominance and the Canaries worked their way into the game forced three fine saves from David De Gea before the break. The best of which being an instinctive prod with his left boot to keep out Anthony Pilkington's goalbound effort from close range.

It was more of the same after the break as United struggled to find their rhtyhm but Norwich were having trouble beating a confident looking De Gea who soon denied Grant Holt and Pilkington again.

The sting in the tail seemed to have come from the hosts though, as Holt controlled and spun on the penalty spot before drilling into the top corner with just six minutes left leaving De Gea with no chance.

However, United upped the tempo in the final minutes and Ashley Young's low cross was flicked home expertly by the ageless Giggs. The injury time winner capped his 900th career United appearance in style and keeps the gap to Man City down to just two points.
