It finished all square at the DW Stadium as Victor Anichebe equalised after Phil Neville had converted into in his own net.

Chances were few and far between in the first half as the weather conditions made football difficult.

Franco Di Santo enjoyed the best opportunity of the opening period but the Argentinian was denied by a point-blank save from Toffees keeper Tim Howard.

At the other end Latics shotstopper Ali Al-Habsi saved at the near post from striker Denis Stracqualursi, while with half-time fast approaching Darren Gibson shot over from Leighton Baines' pull back.

Goalmouth action continued to be at a premium after the break and it took a freak own goal on 75 minutes to break the deadlock. Jean Beausejour's cross came off substitue Phil Neville before an unkind bounce deceived Tim Howard.

Eight minutes later Anichebe leveled terms with a well-taken goal. The Nigerian arrived late to meet Leighton Baines' cross and head home powerfully.

The result leaves Wigan rock bottom of the table on 16 points while Everton move on to 30 points and sit in 11th spot.
