Aston Villa 2-1 Sunderland

Goals from Ashley Young and John Carew saw Villa fight back to beat Sunderland after Djibril Cisse gave the visitors the lead.

The Black Cats opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, Cisse producing a cool finish after being played in by Steed Malbranque's angled ball.

Villa were back on level terms on 17 minutes courtesy of a delightful curling free kick from Young that gave Craig Gordon no chance.

The home side took the lead with 12 minutes of the first half remaining, Carew finding the back of the net with a cheeky back heel from Stilian Petrov's pull-back.

The second half was a less entertaining affair with Gabriel Agbolahor going closest for Villa with a deflected drive and Liam Miller hitting the side-netting at the other end.
