Geovanni stepped up and bent in a delightful swerving, powerful free-kick right into the top right hand corner leaving Spurs' keeper Huerelho Gomes no chance.
From then on Spurs enjoyed the majority of the possession but it was City who looked the better side and almost made it two shortly after.
Marlon King did well in midfield, finding George Boateng who flicked a pass into the path of Dean Marney whose rasping effort crashed back off the post.
Jonathan Woodgate smashed in a shot which deflected of Michael Turner's leg onto the bar and Boateng cleared with an over-head kick late on in the half but Hull went into the break a goal to the good.
After the break the hosts had a great chance to equalise with a long ball played up to substitute Darren Bent, as City keeper Boaz Myhill rushed out Bent tried to chip the Hull stopper but his effort seemed to hang in the air, trickling just past the upright.
King could have killed the game off late on as he ran through on goal but Gomes did well, saving his shot with his legs.
Spurs had three calls for penalties waved away today but they were born out of frustration and you have to feel that as Hull march on, Juande Ramos could well be exiting Spurs before the morning.
