West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Fulham

A second-half strike from Roman Bednar was enough for West Brom to see off Fulham at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have now made their best start to a Premier League season thanks to Bednar's goal that edged a tight game against the Cottagers.

Much of the action came in the second half after a disappointing and scrappy first 45 minutes was lit up by Jonathan Greening beating two players before his pass across goal was cut out by the impressive Aaron Hughes.

The second period started in much the same fashion, with both teams letting themselves down in the final third of the pitch. After a spell of West Brom pressure, though, they eventually made the breakthrough just after the hour mark.

A second corner in quick succession was cleared by Fulham, but it fell to Bednar who fired home from close range.

Danny Murphy came close to equalising immediately after but Scott Carson produced an excellent save from the former Liverpool midfielder.

This was the closest the away side came in a very frustrating second half for them and West Brom managed to hold on and in doing so, condemned Fulham to their third away defeat of the season.
