Manchester City are set to snap up winger Adam Johnson after Middlesbrough accepted a fee for the player.

City have been chasing the highly-rated 22-year-old for most of the transfer window and, after increasing their initial bid on Sunday evening, it looks like Boro have relented in their efforts to keep Johnson until his contract expires at the end of the season.

Johnson, who attended training with Boro on Monday morning, is on his way to Eastlands to discuss the switch and complete a medical before the 5pm deadline.

Boro boss Gordon Strachan wanted Johnson to stay on at Boro, but the prospect of receiving a 'significant bid' for the player looks to have won the day. And Strachan will hope to use some of the funds he receives from City to try and secure the services of Celtic forward Scott McDonald.
