Carayol: I will be back

Last Updated: Wed, 19 Mar 2014 12:38

Middlesbrough striker Muzzy Carayol has vowed to return stronger than ever as he prepares to undergo knee surgery.

The 25-year-old will be operated upon by world-renowned surgeon Andy Williams, who has worked on Theo Walcott, Lawrence Dallaglio, Andrew Flintoff, Joe Cole and Danny Cipriani in the recent past, in London next month.

Carayol faces months on the sidelines and is unlikely to be fit for the start of next season after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament.

But he tweeted: "Not the way I had imagined my season to end!! But I'll be back stronger....thanks for all the lovely messages peeps, really appreciate it."

Carayol was injured late in Saturday's 0-0 Sky Bet Championship draw at Bournemouth just three games after returning to head coach Aitor Karanka's team.

He will not play again this season and will spend the summer working his way back to fitness.
