Portsmouth full-back Hermann Hreidarsson has snubbed a move to Middlesbrough and vowed to sign a new deal at Fratton Park .
The veteran has become a cult figure at the club but there was plenty of interest from elsewhere in the Icelandic international, with Boro keen to land him while both Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic were linked.
Hreidarsson, though, has decided to stay on the south coast, as he told the News: "Me signing with Portsmouth again was always going to happen even though I had many other options.
"Me and my family feel great in this place, we have been there for two fun years and I think I have plenty more in me to play in the Premier League and that had a lot to say in this decision.
"Middlesbrough showed me most interest and also Celtic and Rangers, but that did not go as far.
"Portsmouth promised me, as far as they could, that they want to strengthen the team for next season and that their goal is to keep doing well in the Premier League."
