German ace linked

MiddlesbroGareth Southgate is said to be one of a number of Premier League bosses looking at German goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller.

The 28-year-old Borussia Dortmund star is rated as one of the best keeper's in his homeland with an international call said to be just around the corner.

His current contract runs out at the end of the season and although his club are keen on keeping him, they have offered him a new three-year deal, he will be free to speak to interested parties in the New Year.

German sources have claimed that Italian clubs and the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham, Bolton, and Newcastle are amongst those interested as well as Boro. In the meantime Southgate is expected to open new contract talks with current keepers Ross Turnbull and Brad Jones within a few weeks.
