McMahon makes loan move

MiddlesbroSheffield Wednesday have signed Middlesbrough right-back Tony McMahon on an initial one-month loan deal.

Owls manager Brian Laws made his move after first-choice defender Richard Hinds suffered a broken leg in Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Wolves in the Championship.

McMahon, 22, could make his Wednesday debut against Preston on Saturday, subject to the necessary paperwork being completed.

Laws revealed: "Tony is a player that ticks all the right boxes. He's played in Middlesbrough's first team and is very highly valued by Gareth Southgate.

"Tony has also played in Europe, he's got a great CV and I'm delighted to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday."
