No regrets joining 'mid-table' Boro

Didier Digard says he has no regrets at joining Middlesbrough although he admits they are just a "mid-table" team.

The 22-year-old joined Boro from Paris St Germain in the summer for £4million and he says he is enjoying his time at the club.

The former France under-21 international admits playing in the Premier League is a big step up from France's top flight but he is pleased with his decision to sign for Gareth Southgate's side ahead of other interested clubs.

"People should not believe I joined Middlesbrough because I had no other options," he told reporters in France.

"In fact I received offers but this destination was the one that suited me the most and today I am delighted with this choice.

"For sure there is a world between the French league and The Premier League. To me it is about club management. Everything is done to make the footballer feel fine in England, from the slightest detail to the most banal thing. That is impressive."

Digard risked the wrath of some Boro fans, however, when he admitted they are no more than a "mid-table" side.

He added: "Honestly I am at a mid-table team, Middlesbrough, but I deeply think we can challenge the top French team Lyon in a two-legged game.

"When Middlesbrough make the trip to Manchester United we are aware we have big chances to lose heavily, but we go all together with a real intention to win.

"And if we got hammered we go back to the pitch with the same motivation for the next game. That is a culture for victory.

"To be honest I prefer to finish 10th with Middlesbrough than third with PSG in Ligue 1."
