Gordon Strachan has swooped to take strikers Scott McDonald and Lee Miller to Middlesbrough from Celtic and Aberdeen respectively.

The Boro boss moved quickly after Adam Johnson completed his big money switch to Manchester City on Monday and concluded a beat-the-deadline double capture ahead of the window closing at 5pm.

McDonald, who has scored 50 goals in 88 league games for Celtic, is the fifth player to move from Parkhead to the Riverside Stadium in the transfer window following on from Stephen McManus, Willo Flood, Chris Killen and Barry Robson. And he is looking to improve his chances of being part of Australia's World Cup finals squad this summer.

Meanwhile Miller, who boasts two full Scotland caps, has joined in a £500,000 move from Aberdeen.

Both new signings are expected to be involved in Saturday's away game at Ipswich Town.
