Striker set to return

Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves should be fit enough to return to training with the rest of the squad next Monday.

The record signing, who many expect to be moved on this summer as Gareth Southgate rebuilds his squad for an assault on the Championship, broke his foot in the clash with Newcastle United towards the end of last season but has been out running and expects to be fit for pre-season's start on Monday.

The striker who cost just short of £13m still has three years on his present deal to run at the club so a move looks unlikely to happen unless a club are willing to pay the same sort of wages he is on at Boro.
