O'Neill warmed by reception

MotherwellMotherwell legend Colin O'Neill admitted the reception he received at the Dougie Arnott Testimonial made him very proud.

The former 'Well star, recently named 'Motherwell's Greatest Ever Cult Hero,' moved to Fir Park in 1988 from Portadown and was part of the side who lifted the Scottish Cup three years later.

He was back at the ground recently making a cameo appearance at the fund-raiser and was delighted to receive such a warm reception from the fans.

"It is nice that people remember you and the crowd gave me a great reception when I came on as a substitute in the Dougie Arnott testimonial," he said.

"I was previously over for the Phil O'Donnell memorial in front of 62,000 people and I really appreciate the fact that Motherwell continue to make me a part of any significant occasions.

"The fans gave me the nickname of 'Psycho' at Motherwell and I always played up to it.

"In the Dougie Arnott testimonial I scored a penalty kick and the supporters loved it when I celebrated with a forward roll, although I almost killed myself in the process.

"Ally McCoist scored a hat-trick and some top-quality players were on show to support Dougie's big night.

"The hospitality from Motherwell was first-class and they extended an open invitation to any future match at Fir Park."
