Ruddy hell for Motherwell

Craig Brown will not criticise keeper John Ruddy following a weekend howler, saying the shot-stopper has been "wonderful" this season.

The on-loan Everton ace gifted Dundee United a second goal in Saturday's 3-0 defeat after failing to control a backpass, a result that leaves 'Well two points outside the top four.

The defeat brought to an end the club's 12-match unbeaten run and Ruddy had kept nine clean sheets during that period, but Brown is not going to slam his keeper.

The manager stated: "Big John was desperate to redeem himself but he didn't have an opportunity. He has been wonderful all season so he is exonerated for that one uncharacteristic error."
