Argentinian on way to Toon

NewcastleFabricio Coloccini is finally on his way to St James' Park after Newcastle United confirm talks to sign him are at an 'advanced stage'.

Reports coming from Spain have claimed that Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Deportovo La Coruna to bring versatile Argentinian defender Coloccini to St James' Park.

Coloccini has desperatley been trying to leave Deportivo and had previosuly threatened to invoke article 17 of Fifa's regulations in order to walk out on the Spanish giants.

Deportivo have already rejected one offer from Newcastle, thought to be in the region of £9.5million, but it now looks likely that the defender will make the move to Tyneside.

A Newcastle United spokesman confirmed that a deal is yet to be done but talks are continuing and making positive progress.

Manager Kevin Keegan said: "There's one deal which is ongoing at the moment."

"Hopefully we'll have something to tell you over the weekend."
