Barton tipped for lengthy ban

NewcastleIt's being suggested that Joey Barton could be hit with a 15-match ban after the Football Association charged him with misconduct.

The Newcastle midfielder, who was released from prison this week, is facing further punishment from English Football's governing body following his May 2007 assault on then-Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo.

There are several claims that the FA could slap a long-term suspension on the midfielder, which could see him sidelined until late November.

Meanwhile, Kevin Keegan says he has not set any date for Barton, who is not on the current trip to Spain, to be fit enough to play a first-team game.

The Magpies boss said: "Joey's started his training programme now and we'll see when he's what you call match fit.

"He's got a little bit of catching up to do. There's no timescale on it, we don't have one with any player. But Joey's a very fit boy, he won't take much getting fit."
