Tottenham will battle it out with Newcastle for Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, reports have claimed.

The player is under contract until 2016 but Sporting could be forced to cash in before the transfer window and both Spurs and the Magpies are said to be showing an interest.

Van Wolfswinkel's agent Louis Laros has been speaking out and even though he would only confirm Newcastle's interest, he did say other clubs are keen and Tottenham are thought to be one of them.

"I know Newcastle are interested," said agent Louis Laros. "I will not mention clubs because it is a private matter, but I can say that in England there is great interest in Ricky."

The Magpies are thought to have failed with a bid of £8million as Sporting hold out for £10million and Spurs are now reported to be pondering a move.
