Benitez set to seal stopper deal

Eibar defender Florian Lejeune is set to join Newcastle this week in a deal worth 10 million euros.

We reported earlier in the month that the 26-year-old was high on boss Rafa Benitez's wanted list as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a return to the Premier League.

Lejeune only moved to joined Eibar for £1.3million from Manchester City last summer, but became a key player for the Spanish La Liga club, playing 37 league and cup games last term.

He has played for France Under-20s during his career and despite not yet making it as far as Les Bleus senior side, Benitez has heard good reports on him from scouts and has decided to press ahead with the swoop.

Eibar will be disappointed to lose such a key player, but are set to make a huge profit on him after just 12 months.
