Besiktas director of football Onder Ozen has confirmed that he wants to sign Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse in this transfer window.
The Turkish Super Lig outfit had attempted to sign Brazilian legend Ronaldinho earlier in the month but they were rebuffed by his current side Atletico Mineiro.
As a result, Besiktas have switched their attentions elsewhere and it appears Cisse is now high on their wanted list with Ozen revealing that they would relish the opportunity to take the 28-year-old Senegal international forward before the end of January.
Trabzonspor, West Ham and Borussia Monchengladbach are also thought to be interested in Cisse, but Ozen said: "He is a very valuable player, and a player I like.
"He could make the difference at Besiktas. The question would be if Newcastle will let him go and if Cisse would come to Turkey."
It is being suggested that Newcastle would consider selling Cisse, who has not started for Alan Pardew's side since the 2-1 win against Cardiff in October, but only if a club matches their valuation and they can bring in a replacement to fill the void.
The Magpies are continuing to press on with their bid to secure a loan move for Luuk De Jong before the window shuts, while Sochaux striker Cedric Bakambu has also been linked with a move.
Montpellier's Remy Cabella has also been mentioned but the French Ligue 1 outfit will not consider selling him until the end of the season.
