Colo blow for Magpies

Alan Pardew has confirmed Newcastle will definitely be without Fabricio Coloccini for Sunday's derby against Sunderland.

The defender continues to struggle with the groin injury that kept him out of the game against Liverpool at the weekend and Pardew has now said the big clash at the Stadium of Light is also a no-go.

"Colo definitely won't be available for Sunderland," Pardew revealed. "Losing Colo is like Liverpool losing [Steven] Gerrard. It's a huge blow for us. We all know that."

Meanwhile, in Coloccini's absence, Cheick Tiote will continue to captain the side following a fine display against Liverpool.

Pardew added: "Cheick Tiote, by far, was our best player in my opinion. He was brilliant. I was really pleased for him. We need him at that level."
