Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis in January but will face strong competition from Newcastle.
Gomis has been eyeing a move away from the Ligue 1 side for some time and was heavily linked with a move to the Magpies in the summer, while a deal with Rubin Kazan fell through at the last minute.
The France international is out of contract in the summer and Lyon are looking to try to cash in on his services before he leaves on a free.
The 28-year-old joined the club for 13million euros in 2009 and after four seasons with the side he could be allowed to leave for a fee of around 6million euros.
New Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has identified the striker as the man who could add valuable goals to a side that has struggled to find the net this season, while Toon boss Alan Pardew will also be back in the hunt.
