Arsenal are being linked with a late swoop to sign Loic Remy, which would scupper Newcastle's chances of landing the Marseille striker.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add more goals to his side and is ready to hijack Newcastle's bid to land the 26-year-old who is available for £10million.

The Magpies appeared to be in the box seat to do a deal after a delegation flew out to France earlier in the week to try and wrap up a deal, but Arsenal's interest has now thrown a spanner in the works.

Reports in France say the Gunners are now favourites to do a deal as the player would prefer to move to the Emirates Stadium over St James' Park where he could be involved in a relegation fight.

Remy has not ruled out staying with Marseille until the end of the season but now Arsenal, the club he supported as boy are interested, he could push for a move.
