Kinnear set for more talks with Francis

NewcastleJoe Kinnear has revealed he is hoping to finalise a deal for former Spurs boss Gerry Francis to join his coaching team at the weekend.

The Newcastle caretaker-boss wants Francis to help him and coach Chris Hughton out on the training ground two days a week and will meet him in London for further talks on Saturday.

"Gerry's thinking our offer over at the moment," Kinnear told the Shields Gazette.

"I'll be going to London at the weekend, when we have no game, and I hope to get something sorted out by then."

Meanwhile, Kinnear has escaped punishment from the Football Association over his appearance at the mouth of the Goodison Park tunnel on Sunday.

Kinnear, serving the second match of a two-game touchline ban, had left the directors' box and gone to the tunnel to order a substitution as his mobile phone was not working in the stadium.

An FA spokesman said: "No action will be taken, but we will be writing to Joe to remind him of the rules of touchline bans."
