Newcastle are preparing to launch a new bid for Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy when the January transfer window opens.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew made no secret of his desire to bring Debuchy to the club in the summer but the French side dug in and stood firm to hold on to their man.
The north-east club have maintained interest in the France international and Pardew has hinted he has received encouraging signs from the Ligue 1 club that he will have more success on this occasion.
The 27-year-old enhanced his reputation on a European stage in this summers Euro 2012 tournament in a France squad that majorly under performed.
Danny Simpson is the current right-back fro Newcastle, but the acquisition of Debuchy would put some extra pressure on the Manchester United youth academy product and add some depth to Pardew's squad who will be competing on a European front as well as domestically this campaign.
