Newcastle are ready to turn their attention to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if they fail in their bid to land Loic Remy from Marseille.
The Magpies are stepping up their pursuit of Remy and hope to push through a £10million deal after meeting up with the France international striker in the last 24 hours.
However there is plenty of interest in Remy and with a deal yet to be completed, Toon boss Alan Pardew is weighing up other options should his number one target turn them down.
Saint Etienne striker Aubameyang is one alternative for Pardew and would cost significantly less if Newcastle decided to go down that route. The 22-year-old has good pedigree after starting his career in the AC Milan youth set up before loan spells with French sides Dijon, Lille and Monaco.
The striker eventually ended up at Saint Etienne where he has bagged 26 goals in 62 appearances and Pardew believes he has the potential to replace Demba Ba.
