Newcastle's chances of landing Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been hit by the news Chelsea are keen.
The Magpies will return to France in the summer to make further new signings and Aubameyang is high on their wanted list, however Chelsea are also stepping up their interest after watching the striker in action.
According to reports in France, Chelsea had scouts present on Friday night as Saint-Etienne took on Rennes and the highly-rated striker was the player under the microscope.
The Gabon international did not disappoint either as he bagged the equalising goal in a 2-2 draw as Saint-Etienne continued their push for Champions League football.
Newcastle and Chelsea are not the only clubs tracking the 23-year-old as Tottenham also have a strong interest and so Alan Pardew could struggle to do a deal.
