Newcastle are said to be keeping tabs on highly-rated Derby midfielder Will Hughes but only a huge bid would secure his services.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a fine debut campaign for the Rams in the Championship and has been linked with several Premier League clubs in the past few months.
The Magpies are believed to be the latest keen on the England Under-21 international, who recently signed a new long-term contract until the summer of 2016 at Derby, and are pondering a summer offer.
However, Derby will resist all bids unless they receive a "massive" offer and they fully expect the teenager to be at the club for the start of pre-season training.
Boss Nigel Clough, speaking about interest in the midfielder in the past, said: "If somebody blows us out of the water with a massive offer, then he will go, but that is the same at any club.
He added in the Derby Evening Telegraph: "Every player has his price, in any league, but we will always try to keep our best players."
