Newcastle face a battle to sign Loic Remy as the striker is still talking to other clubs, Marseille have confirmed.
The Magpies appeared to be in the box seat to land the striker after the French outfit revealed a deal, thought to be in the region of £8.2million, had been agreed between the two clubs.
Talks over personal terms have also taken place but Remy has other options and is speaking to rival Premier League clubs, including QPR, while Arsenal have also been mentioned.
OM's sporting director Jose Anigo says the player is heading to England this month but it is now down to him and his agents to decide where he will end up.
"We at OM reached an agreement with Newcastle, but we also talked with other English clubs," he revealed. "We gave them a working basis and it remains up to Loic to choose the club he prefers in terms of their structure or sporting plans.
"He is currently in England and is speaking with some clubs. Everyone talks about Newcastle, but it is not just Newcastle because he is talking with other clubs.
"We have to remain cautious. We have done our job and players and agents must do theirs. Nothing is done."
