Loic Remy is reported to have rejected a move to QPR, leaving Newcastle in the box seat to complete a deal for the Marseille striker.
Newcastle and QPR have both sent delegations to France in a bid to wrap up a deal for the 26-year-old, who has been told he can leave if the price is right.
R's boss Harry Redknapp was spotted at Marseille's game against Guingamp but the French media is now reporting that Remy is not interested in a move to Loftus Road.
QPR still face a huge battle to avoid the drop and although Newcastle are in a dogfight themselves, it is thought the striker would prefer to link up with the French contingent at St James' Park.
There is also interest from West Ham and Tottenham but following the sale of Demba Ba to Chelsea, Toon boss Alan Pardew is keen to get a deal wrapped up as soon as possible.
